Liberating Bondage

Picture
Most of my adult life I've been a ravenous freedom seeker. Traveling anywhere, expanding my wings of possibility, exploring magical realms of consciousness...

Recently the Flow of Life led me to commit to living in one place for a year. Now that my sweet cat Luna is living with me too, there is a sense of an anchor and rootedness that I haven't had in a very long time.

I flew with Luna here from Ontario in October. It was a challenging journey for her; a sensitive, wild, and independent cat who has a lot of anxiety in certain situations, connected to trauma when she was a kitten.

A few days after we arrived, I let her outside because she is an outdoor cat, and I could feel her freedom-seeking soul aching to explore the BC wilderness...

She disappeared, and was gone for 3 weeks. I put up posters, posted in groups online, and did everything I possibly could to find her. Eventually a lady who kindly feeds stray cats called me and said she found Luna.
I was happy to discover that Luna was alive, but was heartbroken to find her in a hypervigilant state. She was super skittish and ran away from me. Night after night, I returned to bring food, lovingly call her name, and hope she would come to me, but she was scared, triggered, lost. We eventually had to get a cat trap to capture her.

She was terrified being in the trap but the most fascinating thing happened... As soon as she was in the safety of my home, it was like her soul bloomed back to life, and she remembered me. She purred loudly and we've been having the most beautiful, loving, connected moments together since. It's deeply inspiring me about the concept of liberating bondage, which I first heard described in the book Transformation through Intimacy by Robert Augustus Masters. In the book it was more related to Love Relationships, however this wisdom can be applied in many areas of life.
Even though it may feel scary or intimidating, I'm realizing that surrendering to the bondage of commitment can be a profoundly liberating experience. Just like Luna, my soul blooms even more alive when I am held in a conscious, loving, intentional container (for my physical body, my love life, my personal growth, and my blossoming business).

It's ironic that bondage can be liberating; that truly saying YES to a seemingly limiting commitment can create the greatest expansion. It feels like running towards something that I've always wanted to run away from, discovering that it's the Key to experiencing the Freedom my soul seeks. I'm excited about this new way of exploring...

Presence, Love, Freedom ~*
